Preschool Program FAQ

  • How old do students need to be to be eligible for preschool?

    The Preschool program is available to all Tuckerton Borough families with a child that will be three years old or four years old by October 1.

     

    When does the program start and how long is the program?

    The program starts on the first day of school as per the district's school calendar each year. Students attend a full school day which runs from 8:30am - 2:30pm. 


    Can my child attend the program 2 or 3 days a week?

    No, this is a 5 - day a week full time preschool program. Preschoolers are expected to attend school all 5 days. Daily attendance is taken. 

     

    Will there be a rest period during the day?

    Yes, all students have a one hour rest period built into their school day. Cots are provided for all students. Students are not required to nap, however, the expectation is that they lie quietly with a book or other appropriate quiet activity and rest their bodies. 

     

    Will transportation be provided?

    TES is a walking district. Transportation is only provided to students who live within the normal bussing areas. You are not required to use transportation should you prefer to drive your child to school.

     

    Will there be before and after care provided?

    TES is offering Before Care for the 23-24 school year. Breakfast available in the classroom upon arrival, link the document that is on the main page and yes aftercare for students who are potty trained, link to the aftercare info.  

     

    Does my child have to be potty trained?

    No, preschoolers do not need to be potty trained. However, should your child not be potty trained, changing supplies would be provided by the parent. Classroom teachers are always happy to support students and parents who are beginning to potty train. 

     

    Are lunch and snacks provided?

    For the 23-24 school year, breakfast and lucnh are available for purchase. The free/reduced lunch application can be found at our Cafeteria page

     

    How involved can I be as a parent?

    Parent/Guardian involvement is highly encouraged and the school will make opportunities available to parents as much as possible.     Do you offer home visits?

    What kind of curriculum is used?

    TES implements Creative Curriculum which is a learning through play based curriculum approved by the state of New Jersey. Teachers are trained and supported by the Master Teacher in implementing this curriculum with fidelity. 

     

    Are 3 and 4 year olds mixed?

    Yes, each classroom has both 3 and 4 year olds. 

     

    Will my child have the same teacher for both years of preschool?

    Yes, students remain with the same teacher for both years of preschool should they begin at age 3. 

     

    How many students are in a classroom?

    The maximum number of students per classroom is 15. Each classroom is staffed with a teacher and full time aide.

     

    Are the classrooms inclusive?

    Yes, the Child Study Team works closely with the Preschool Instructional Coach and Preschool Intervention and Referral Specialist as well as providers to allow for maximum participation in the general education classroom.
